Monika Bessenrodt-Weberpals

Monika Bessenrodt-Weberpals is a German physicist and gender researcher.

Life

Monika Bessenrodt-Weberpals studied physics and mathematics as well as philosophy and pedagogy from 1974 to 1980, which she completed with a diploma in physics and the first state examination in physics and mathematics. In 1984 she received her PhD in experimental plasma physics. She then worked from 1980 to 2004 as a research assistant at the SFB 162 for Plasma Physics and later at the Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics in Garching. Since 2004 she has been working at the HAW Hamburg as a professor for physics and gender studies, from 2007 also as vice-president for studies and teaching.

She is a member of the Accreditation Committee of the Science Council as well as the jury of the nationwide federal-state program "Quality Pact Teaching" and deputy chairwoman of the representative assembly of the Hamburg Student Union . She volunteers on the board of the Aviation Cluster Hamburg Metropolitan Region eV , in the board of trustees of the Körber Foundation or in various committees of the German Physical Society (DPG) such as the equal opportunities working group and the board of directors. She is also active in the steering groups and boards of various associations and projects at the HAW Hamburg. In 2013 she published the book "Coaching as a door opener for good teaching: On the way to a student-centered teaching and learning culture (basics of further education)".
