Monika Hildbrand

Monika Hildbrand-Egli (born October 9, 1952 in Emmenbrücke ) is a Swiss yodeler and singer of popular songs and hits .

Life

Hildbrand grew up in a musical family. She loved singing as a child and learned to play the guitar at the age of ten. She began to accompany herself with it and made her first small stage experiences on family occasions.

In 1973, after language stays in Florence and London, she was accidentally confronted with yodelling . She quickly became enthusiastic about it and began to learn it autodidactically from records. In 1974 she was discovered by the Swiss band leader and hotelier Joe (Julius) Schmid, brother of the Schmid siblings .

Afterwards she performed regularly with live singing and yodelling on the stage of Schmid's hotel-restaurant "Kindli" in Zurich in front of an international audience. In the first few years she enjoyed yodelling lessons with Klärli Schmid (Schmid siblings). She studied vocal and singing technique with the opera singer May Steinhoff for three years.

With Joe and Willy Schmid's big band, Monika performed many gala appearances outside of the "Kindli" at home and abroad from 1975 to 1993 - from Germany to Kenya. As a solo yodeler she performed a. a. in America, Thailand, Spain and Italy.

Monika qualified three times for the Grand Prix of Folk Music from SRG, ZDF and ORF. In 1991 and 1992 she made it into the final broadcasts. In 1991 she took 11th place with the song Ja, das isch Traumhaft , and in 1992 14th place with the song We all have our mistakes . Many more TV and radio appearances followed.

Hildbrand published five long-playing records / CDs by 2014, and she can be heard vocally on many other sound carriers. She wrote the lyrics for various compositions. For their production "Schwiizer Wunschkonzert", she and her producer Carlo Brunner were awarded a gold record in 1982 (25,000 records sold at the time).

In 2015 and 2016 Monika Hildbrand sang, yodeled and played in over 130 sold-out performances at the Bernhard Theater in Zurich, in the musical Swiss comedy "Stägeli uf, Stägeli from the spock production by Erich Vock and Hubert Spiess.
