Monique Breteler

Monique Maria Bernadette Breteler (born January 26, 1961 in Nijmegen ) is a Dutch neuroepidemiologist. She is director of population-based health research at the German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases (DZNE), professor at the University of Bonn and professor at the Harvard School of Public Health in Boston, Massachusetts, one of many academic units at Harvard University .

Career

Monique Breteler studied medicine and epidemiology at Radboud University Nijmegen . In 1993 she did her PhD in these subjects at the University of Rotterdam . There she took over the management of the neuroepidemiology department in 1995. Since 2002 she has been an associate professor at the School of Public Health at Harvard University in Boston, Massachusetts. In addition, since 2011 she has been director of population-based health research at the German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases (DZNE). In 2019 Monique Breteler was accepted as a member of the National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina in the Neuroscience Section .

Monique Breteler's research interests lie in the etiology and preclinical development of neurodegenerative and cerebrovascular diseases . She has been accompanying the large epidemiological and population-based Rotterdam study for more than 20 years . She is also head of the Rhineland Study, which began in 2016 at the DZNE in Bonn.
