Monjed or Al-Monjed ( Arabic المنجد, DMG al-Munǧid ) is the name of a Jordanian armored recovery vehicle that was developed in the early 2000s.

Development history

Monjed was developed by the Jordanian state arms company King Abdullah II Design and Development Bureau (KADDB) in the early 2000s on the basis of the US tank M60A1 . At the end of the 1990s, the number of M60 battle tanks in the Jordanian tank units was reduced in favor of the more modern Khalid and Al-Hussein models . In the course of this, the M60A1 chassis were used for the conversion to an armored recovery vehicle. The Jordanian armed forces are currently the only users of Al-Monjed.

drive

Like the M60, the Monjed is powered by an air-cooled 12-cylinder diesel engine called AVDS 1790-2DR , which was originally developed specifically for the US M88 Recovery Vehicle . The CD-8506A transmission from Allison Transmission , which is adapted to the torque of the diesel engine, was selected for the power transmission . The drive consists of six rubber-tyred double castors and three double support castors on each side. The guide rollers are at the front, the drive wheels are at the rear. The suspension is provided by torsion bars that are connected to the rollers via swing arms.

technology

The Monjed can be used both for the recovery and for the repair of battle tanks in the front area. The vehicle carries a range of repair equipment , including a crane , welding equipment, and pneumatic tools. In addition, the recovery vehicle has enough storage space for spare parts and can even carry a replacement motor, which is transported on top. The hydraulically driven drum winch develops a maximum pulling force of 400 kN. The rope speed is 40 meters per minute with light loads and 13 m / min with maximum load. The rope length is 70 meters and breaks under a load of 665 kN. The clearing and support shield is primarily used as a support in crane operation, but also as an earth anchor when using the cable winch, earth movements are possible to a limited extent. The hydraulically operated crane, which can be swiveled through 360 °, is able to lift 6.5 tons by a maximum of 4.9 meters, which means that the drive units of modern battle tanks can be replaced. An auxiliary power unit provides the energy for the crane hydraulics, which would make it possible to replace the vehicle's own motor. Monjed can pull vehicles with a mass of up to 60 tons at a speed of 30 km / h.
