Monomorphina is an algal species from the order of the euglenid .

description

Monomorphina lives as a unicellular, flagellated alga that is teardrop-shaped when viewed from the side and has a conspicuous, hyaline (translucent) end spine. The cells reach a length of 20 to 60 µm and are not or only slightly flattened; this can be seen in an apical view or when observing a floating, rotating cell. The scourge starts in the reservoir, in the periphery of which there is a contractile vacuole and an extraplastidial eye-spot . Although the cell is not surrounded by a cell wall, it is almost rigid, which is due to the reinforced pellicle . The stripes in the pellicle are arranged in a helical manner and can be seen very well under the light microscope because they are raised in relief. The cells contain a few marginal chloroplasts and two, rarely three or four plates of paramylon . Asexual reproduction occurs through division into two; sexual reproduction is unknown.

distribution

Monomorphina can occur in all types of water, but mostly only in small numbers.
