A coal and steel railway is a railway for goods and passenger traffic in the coal and steel industry . This includes:
- Mine railways , sand railways and pit connection railways in mining , in particular coal railways
- Factory or field railways in the associated processing industries, especially the iron and steel industry .
Normally, mining railways are private railways . State / public rail freight lines , which are mainly used for transport between mines and further processing, are more rarely referred to as mining railways .
