The Montanhydraulik Group consists of a number of companies that manufacture hydraulic cylinders and control systems. Founded in 1952 by Erich and Heinz Lipphardt, the Montanhydraulik company in Holzwickede initially manufactured wagon hydraulics. This resulted in an international group of companies with around 1,100 employees at nine locations, which has been under the management of the managing partner Peter Lipphardt since 1975. On April 1, 2013 Ralf Becker took over the chairmanship of the management, which also includes Josef M. Mertens. In the 2013 financial year, sales worldwide amounted to EUR 250 million. The headquarters of the management are in Holzwickede.
Ownership
The Montanhydraulik group is majority owned by the Lipphardt family. Only in the group companies AGOP and Montanhydraulik India does the Lipphardt family only hold a majority stake or a 50:50 joint venture between Indian shareholders and Montanhydraulik GmbH in Germany. Ralf Becker replaced the previous Chairman of the Management Board, Peter Lipphardt, in April 2015.
Structure of the company
Hydraulic cylinder
The Montanhydraulik Group manufactures hydraulic cylinders for a wide range of applications. In the factory in Gelsenkirchen and Hamm, cylinders up to a length of over 20 m can be manufactured. Differential cylinders, multi-stage telescopic cylinders and various special solutions are produced.
Areas of application for these cylinders are, for example, truck cranes, mobile harbor cranes, wind power plants , large excavators, tunnel boring machines , dams, concrete pumps, laundry presses, continuous casting systems, lifting ships for the construction of wind farms or railway wagons.
Hydraulic steel construction
The Montanhydraulik Group produces hydraulic cylinders for lock gates, overflow gates, inlet gates and bypass gates for dams. Furthermore, complete hydraulic aggregate systems including computer-controlled flow level regulation, control as well as automatic lock monitoring and operation are supplied.
Offshore
Together with the Dutch subsidiary Muns Techniek, Montanhydraulik develops and manufactures complete hydraulic solutions from power units to control systems and software to corrosion-resistant hydraulic cylinders, e.g. B. for the lifting system of lifting platforms and construction ships for the construction of offshore wind farms.
Mobile crane construction
Montanhydraulik supplies safety-relevant components with telescopic, luffing and support cylinders, hydraulic accumulator cylinders and rotary feedthroughs - both for the small city crane with load capacities of 25 t and for the large nine-axis crane with loads of up to 1,000 t and jib lengths of up to 100 m.
Mining
The Montanhydraulik Group designs and manufactures special products for underground hard coal mining . This includes rear systems, shields , special constructions such as platforms, abutments or shield screwing systems as well as hydraulic rams .

March 17, 1952 - Founding of the trading company Montanbedarf. Later expansion of activities to the repair of bulk goods vehicles.
1955 - Start of production in Holzwickede in a disused railway repair shop. Construction of the first cylinders for concrete pumps and pneumohydraulically operated disc brakes for special steel wagons.
1960 - Change of name to Montanhydraulik GmbH & Co KG. First patented in-house developments.
1961 - Invention of the assembly wagon, a hydraulically operated self-loader.
1990 - Establishment of Montanhydraulik Reparatur und Service GmbH in Werl.
1997 - Montanhydraulik (India) is founded in Chennai, India.

Montanhydraulik (India) Pvt. Ltd. based in Chennai, India, specializes in hydraulic power units and electrical and electronic control systems for hydroelectric dams. On a production area of 6,000 square meters in Sholavaram (Chennai), hydraulic cylinders up to a stroke of 6 m, electrical controls and complex switchgear are designed, produced and tested in detail. Muns Techniek BV
Thanks to the strategic participation in the Dutch company Muns Techniek, Montanhydraulik has been able to significantly expand its services in the offshore segment. The internationally active company specializes in the development and manufacture of hydraulic systems and controls, among others in the dredging and general shipbuilding industries. In the past few years Muns Techniek also manufactured solutions for offshore applications, such as B. Lifting platforms and construction ships.

Maschinenfabrik Glückauf GmbH & Co. KG, based in Gelsenkirchen, specializes in the development and manufacture of special products for underground hard coal mining. In addition, AGOP also manufactures and installs complete systems in the offshore, chemical, pharmaceutical, food and shipbuilding sectors. In many cases, AGOP develops the systems from scratch according to customer requirements. Some of the results of this development activity are automatic control systems for the position and trim of ships, hydraulic shock absorbers with integrated electronic control for high-speed trains or working platforms with automatic leveling for various areas such as telecommunications, maintenance, transport, etc.

Montanhydraulik Reparatur und Service GmbH, based in Dortmund, specializes in the overhaul and repair of hydraulic cylinders up to a weight of 40 t and a length of 20 m. For this purpose, honing machines up to a length of 14 m, hall cranes up to 40 t as well as assembly and testing workstations are available on a production area of 10,330 square meters.
