Monte Creto

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Monte Creto is a mountain near Montoggio northeast of Genoa , where on May 13, 1800 a battle took place between Austrian troops under Prince Friedrich Franz Xaver von und zu Hohenzollern-Hechingen and Napoleonic troops under Division General Nicolas Jean-de-Dieu Soult , where Soult was wounded and captured.

The then first lieutenant Franz Csorich (1772–1847) proved himself particularly well and was allowed to call himself Franz Csorich von Monte Creto from then on . He remained childless, but inherited his title through adoption to his nephew Anton Csorich von Monte Creto (1795–1864), an Austrian minister of war . Since he had no male offspring, the Monte Creto title died out after only two generations.
