The Monte Sparagio is a mountain outdoor community consortium of Trapani , Italy .

Geography and data

At 1110  m slm, Monte Sparagio is the highest mountain in the Trapani community consortium in Sicily and is located between the cities of Buseto Palizzolo , San Vito Lo Capo and Castellammare del Golfo . The name is probably derived from the Sicilian dialect , where Sparagio means " asparagus ". The summit of Monte Sparagio can be reached by a small, unpaved road that is mainly used by hikers. An ascent is very worthwhile for them, as there is a very beautiful panorama on the summit.

vegetation

The vegetation on Monte Sparagio is characterized by the centuries-long keeping of cattle and sheep, natural fires, but also slash and burn. There were once large holm oak forests on the mountain, few of which still exist today. The remaining vegetation results from a landscape of rubble and herbs.

mythology

Allegedly there was once a flat, rectangular rock called Tavula di Turricianu at the top of the mountain , on which the robber Pasquale Turriciano is said to have formed his gang, with whom he fought against conscription in the 1862 rebellion. The stone slab is no longer there; she probably had to give way to the radio antenna on the mountain top.
