Moon was a popular formation in the early 1990s in Germany and South America in New Wave and Gothic circles in the style of the early Joy Division or The Sisters of Mercy .

history

Moon was founded by guitarist Christoph Mause and keyboard player Sascha Simnovec, who are both responsible for the main part of all compositions. Christoph Mause had previously u. a. made a name in the scene as a producer for bands like Escape with Romeo , Zarths and Secret Discovery . Mause and Simnovec were complemented by Ralf Janzen (drums), Jens Weber (bass) and Klaus Groppe (vocals).

After the release of the song, which quickly became a cult song, Dave got a record deal with the Dortmund Subtronic label on some wave samplers in the fall of 1991, and in autumn 1992 released the Salinas EP, named after the place where James Dean died , on Subtronic / SPV . Salinas and especially the new version of Dave quickly became a hit in the scene and Moon toured extensively through the underground clubs.

With the successor Explain , recorded in the Netherlands, France and England and produced by cult drummer Markus Giltjes ( Pink Turns Blue ) , Moon then struck a much more modern note. After extensive tours and a. with Shock Therapy and Myrna Loy , Klaus Groppe left the band in 1994 and was replaced by Udo Woitowizck.

In the period that followed, Moon was noticed by the singer's drug excesses and repeated concert cancellations, and in the fall of 1994 Woitowizck finally disappeared without a trace on a tour of South America. The band then broke up.

In 2003, Unexplained, a CD with unpublished original recordings, live tracks and the remains of an unreleased third album started with Woitowizck, and a new track was released.
