Mooreana trichoneura (also known as "Yellow Flat") is a butterfly from the family of the thick-headed butterflies (Hesperiidae).

The wingspan of the moth is 32 to 36 millimeters. The basic color of the upper sides of the wings is dark brown. There are a few small bright spots on the forewings. A large yellow area on the lower part of the hind wings is typical of the species. The underside of the hind wings is whitish. Males and females are drawn similarly.

Caterpillar

Fully grown caterpillars appear glassy and are pale green in color. The head is large and black-brown in color.

Doll

The pupae are yellow-brown to red-brown in color and coated with a white, waxy powder layer.

distribution and habitat

Mooreana trichoneura is found in India , Thailand , Malaysia , Singapore and the Philippines . It inhabits the forests of the lowlands up to heights of 833 m.

Way of life

Like other species of the same subfamily, Mooreana trichoneura flies quite quickly. The underside of a leaf often serves as a resting place, where it remains with spread wings. The caterpillars feed on the leaves of various milkweed plants (Euphorbiaceae), for example Mallotus paniculatus . They live in rolled and spun leaves.
