It is a popular destination for the urban population. It is also known for its historical significance and the numerous monuments.

Location and neighborhood

Several sights are located on the grounds of Moranbong Park or on its edge: the monumental Triumphal Arch , the Kim Il Sung Football Stadium , the 150-meter-high television tower and the Moranbong Theater built in 1946 and the Sino-Korean Friendship Tower built in 1959 . At the foot of the hill there are various facilities that are supposed to commemorate the revolution and the "achievements" of Kim Il-sung . The park around the hill is a recreational area with restaurants, a small zoo, an open-air theater and facilities for the youth. On the western edge of the park are the Kaeson and Tongil metro stations of the Pyongyang metro .

etymology

The name "Moranbong" means Moran Hill, where "Moran" is the name for the peony . The 95 meter high hill is part of the revolutionary history of the first communist president Kim Il-sung. At the bottom of the hill, he reportedly gave an important speech in the 1940s after his return from exile.

Girls band of the same name

The Moranbong girls band , which is very popular in North Korea, has the same name . Allegedly, President Kim Jong-un selected the band members himself and made them highly decorated soldiers.
