Morgan Island is a small island in the southern Indian Ocean . It is the largest of a group of islands 1.5 km east of Cape Bidlingmaier off the north coast of Heard Island .
Said archipelago was roughly mapped in 1860 by the American seal hunter H. C. Chester, who was operating in the waters around Heard Island at the time. They are recorded as Morgan Islands on maps created in 1874 during the Challenger Expedition (1872–1874). Participants of the Australian National Antarctic Research Expeditions mapped it in 1948 and restricted the naming to the island described here.
