Morgenrot was a German rock band whose musicians made music together from 1975 to 1984. 1996 to 1997 the band reunited at short notice.

The band released three LPs and four singles. During the reunion in 1996/97, the discography was supplemented by a CD with material from the LPs as well as an extra CD and finally a live album.

history

Singer Endrick Gerber ("Enny") and bassist Lutz Woite ("Lutze") had known each other since the 1960s. The two founded the band Iris in 1974 with the drummer Ronald Bosien ("Ronny") and the guitarist Christian Günther-Schaller ("Krischan") .

In 1975 they renamed this band Morgenrot and took the keyboard player Hans-Jürgen Straub (“Dübbel”, “Karo Ceh”) into the band in order to play German rock from now on. The band earned their equipment with their own bar and as a construction worker.

Especially successful as a live band in Berlin, the band, managed by Jim Rakete, was finally able to release their first LP under the title Morgenrot on CBS Records in the summer of 1979 . With this work they won the German Record Prize in 1980 . In the same year they brought out the LP “ Very Close ” and in 1982 the LP “ Geld macht Glück ” ( Money Makes You Happy) .

The band failed to make a commercial breakthrough. After the single Feuerwehrmann released in 1983 , CBS terminated its collaboration with Morgenrot, so that a live LP recorded in Berlin at Easter 1983 remained unreleased. Since Morgenrot couldn't find another record company, the musicians started their own projects.

In 1996 the musicians got together again for a few live performances. In 1997 Green Tree Records released a CD with recordings of live performances in Berlin from the previous year and Columbia / Sony released the double CD Morgenrot Definitive Collection with extensive material from the LPs.
