Moriner

Moriner ( Latin Morini ) is the name of a Celtic tribe.

The Moriners were western neighbors of the Menapians . The Morinians lived in the then swampy and wooded coastal area between today's Dunkirk and Le Touquet-Paris-Plage . This area, between the rivers Aa and Canche , corresponds roughly to today's French department Pas-de-Calais .

They were born in 53 BC. Subjugated by Julius Caesar . Your area was thus incorporated into the Roman Empire . One of them (30-29 BC) was crushed by the Romans.

Their civitas was Taruenna, today's Thérouanne (Dutch Terwaan) about 20 km south of Saint-Omer . The port town of Bononia , today's Boulogne-sur-Mer , was also part of their territory.
