The Canche (Dutch: Kwinte) is a river in France that runs in the Pas-de-Calais department in the Hauts-de-France region . It has its source in the Ternois countryside , in the municipality of Gouy-en-Ternois . Initially it drains in a south-easterly direction, but then turns to north-west and flows into the English Channel after 88 kilometers between Étaples and Le Touquet-Paris-Plage . In the mouth area, the Canche is strongly subject to the tides . On the one hand, the water level of the river fluctuates strongly, on the other hand, extensive salt marshes have emerged there.

Water management

Their Schéma d'aménagement et de gestion des eaux ( SAGE - Water Management Plan ), which is currently being drawn up, affects 203 municipalities and covers 1 274 km². To this end a cooperative ( Syndicat Mixte pour le SAGE de la Canche ) was founded.
