Moritz David

Moritz David (born December 12, 1875 in Gimbsheim ; died January 16, 1956 in Manchester ) was a German rabbi in Bochum .

Moritz David in 1875 in Gimbsheim at Worms and studied in Erlangen , where he at the age of 21 years, his dissertation "The Targum Sheni to Esther" handed in and a doctorate was. In 1901 he was appointed the first rabbi of the Bochum synagogue community and stayed there until his voluntary retirement in 1934. In 1938 he briefly oversaw the vacant rabbinate in Dortmund before emigrating to England with the help of Leo Baeck . He died in Manchester on January 16, 1956.

In 1959, some members of the Bochum synagogue community unveiled a memorial plaque for Moritz David in the Jewish cemetery on Wasserstraße .
