Moritz Levi

Moritz Levi (born November 23, 1857 in Frankfurt-Sachsenhausen ; † November 18, 1942 ) was an American Romanist of German origin.

life and work

Levi came to the United States (after Kalamazoo ) in 1875 at the age of 17 and received US citizenship in 1881. He earned a bachelor's degree in Ann Arbor in 1887 , taught in Chicago, studied at the Sorbonne from 1889 to 1890 and began a career as a professor at the University of Michigan in 1890 . There he was an instructor (until 1896), assistant professor (until 1902), junior professor (until 1907) and finally professor from 1907 to 1923. During this time he taught French, Italian and Spanish.
