Moriz Sutermeister

Moriz or Moritz Sutermeister (* 1836 in Zofingen ; † June 1910 in Zurich ) was a Swiss caster , mechanic and author of non-fiction .

Life

Sutermeister's parents were Elisabeth Plüss and the head miller Wilhelm Sutermeister. In 1861, Sutermeister cast his first bell for the branch church in Langnau LU . He spent his apprenticeship in Unterstrass and also trained in Italy and France. In 1860 he founded a bell and metal foundry in Aarau . Most recently he worked in the dye works in the Zofinger Riedtal. Sutermeister was married and had four children. Sutermeister dealt in his writings with history , especially the bell foundry .

Among other things, he was a great-nephew of the Zofingen grenadier captain Johann Jakob Plüss , who was in Piedmontese, Swiss and French military service and was a Spanish and English prisoner of war for six years. He also wrote short biographies for the Swiss Artist Lexicon .
