Morley Old Hall

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Morley Old Hall is a manor house in the village of Morley Saint Peter , about 20 km from Norwich in the English county of Norfolk . The moated house was built in the 16th century and English Heritage has listed it as a Grade I Historic Building.

Around 1600, John Sedley , an architect of King Henry VII , built the mansion. It has a U-shaped floor plan and two main and two attic floors. It was built of bricks and its roof is covered with simple roof tiles. It is enclosed by a moat on all sides.

For the past few years the house has belonged to Edmund Ironside, 1st Baron Ironside , Chief Commander of Home Forces in World War II , and in the 1970s to Janet Shand Kydd , first wife of Peter Shand Kydd , stepfather of Diana, Princess of Wales .

Before it was sold in 2001, the mansion deteriorated; a main wall had already broken down into the moat. In May 2009 the house was offered for £ 2.65 million. After renovations for £ 1m, the house was put up for sale again in April 2012 by new owners Richard and Allison Warden for £ 3m.
