history

Morris Air was founded in 1992 by travel agency owner June Morris of the same name. Until then, they only used planes from other airlines to carry out their own tour operator. Morris came up with the idea of offering up to 300 weekly charter flights as scheduled flights. With 11 leased Boeing 737-300s, Morris Air was able to build up a large route network in a short time and to become a notable competitor of the established companies.

The fleet was expanded to 21 Boeing 737-300s within a year, while Morris Air was in the black from the start. As a result of its rapidly growing success, Southwest Airlines submitted a takeover bid of US $ 130 million. Morris Air accepted this offer and initially expanded the route network for Southwest under its own name. In 1995 Southwest and Morris Air merged, the latter disappeared from the public image.

June Morris remained on the board of directors of Southwest until she finally retired from the industry in May 2006.
