Morris A. Adelman

Morris Albert Adelman (born May 31, 1917 in New York City , † May 8, 2014 ) was an American economist who was particularly known for his research on the global oil market.

Life

Adelman studied at the City College of New York until 1938 . In 1948 he received his PhD from Harvard University . He was then appointed to the MIT Department of Economics. After his retirement he remained connected to the Center for Energy and Environmental Policy Research .

In 1956 Adelman was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences .

Together with Peter Odell and Arlon Tussing , he contradicted the thesis of an imminent peak oil that was popular in the 1970s (before the discovery of North Sea oil) .
