Morton B. Panish (born April 8, 1929 in New York City ) is an American chemist and physicist who specializes in semiconductor lasers .
Panish studied at the University of Denver with a bachelor's degree in 1950 and Michigan State University with a doctorate in physical chemistry in 1954. He was then until 1964 at Oak Ridge National Laboratory and 1964-1969 scientist at the AVCO Corporation. From 1969 to his retirement in 1992 he was at Bell Laboratories , from 1969 to 1986 as a department head and from 1969 as a Distinguished Member of the Technical Staff.
