Coordinates: 33 ° 54 ′ S , 151 ° 9 ′ E The Municipality of Mosman is a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of New South Wales . Mosman belongs to the metropolis of Sydney , the capital of New South Wales. The area is 8.7 km² and has about 28,500 inhabitants.
Mosman is located in the mouth of the port of Sydney between the two main arms Sydney Harbor and Middle Harbor about 6 km northeast of the city center. The area includes 21 districts: Balmoral, Balmoral Beach, Balmoral Heights, Beauty Point, Bradleys Head, Chinamans Beach, Chowder Bay, Clifton Gardens, Georges Heights, HMAS Penguin, Middle Head, Mosman, Mosman Junction, Pearl Bay, Sirius Cove, Spit Junction, Taronga Park, The Spit and parts of Cremorne, Cremorne Junction and Mosman Bay. The seat of the Municipality Council is in the Mosman district in the west of the LGA.

The Mosman Municipal Council has twelve members elected by the residents of the four wards (three councilors each from Balmoral, East, West and Middle Harbor Ward). These four districts are determined independently of the districts. The mayor of the council is also recruited from among the councilors.
