The company Motech Industries Co. Ltd. is one of the world's largest manufacturers of solar cells , based in Taipei ( Taiwan ).

history

The company was founded in June 1981 under the name Meter International Corporation . Initially, the company exclusively developed and produced measuring instruments. In 1998 the company was renamed Motech and Motech Solar was founded. The manufacture of solar cells began in 1999. With the establishment of Motech Power Division in 2002, a concentration on the planning and development of complete photovoltaic systems should take place. In 2003 Motech entered with the slogan "Modern technology for a sustainable world". Since 2004, the company also develops inverters (English: inverter ). The devices have been tested by the California Energy Commission and rated as particularly effective. In January 2012, the shares in Motech Instruments , which supplies high-quality test and measurement instruments, were sold to B&K Precision Corporation.

Business areas

With the Motech Solar division , the company became the first manufacturer of solar cells in Taiwan in 1999. The core business is research and development as well as the manufacture and marketing of mono- and polycrystalline silicon solar cells . In addition, inverters and voltage controllers for the photovoltaic industry are manufactured. The business area Solar in 2007 generated about 98 percent of total company sales.

Since May 15, 2003, the company's shares were initially traded over the counter in Taiwan (share number 6244). It has been trading in London since 2007 and in the same year reached a top rate of the equivalent of US $ 14. The share has been available on the German stock exchanges in Berlin and Frankfurt since 2008. Against the background of the 2007 financial crisis, among other things , the price of the share fell to a tenth by the end of 2008. The company is listed in the Photovoltaik Global 30 Index .
