Moto Toscana is a German sludge and doom band. It distinguishes itself from the majority of the scene in that it does without the usual line-up with one or two guitars.

history

Background information about the band is scarce. In addition to the occupation, this includes the origin, which is specified with the three cities of Heiligenhafen, Hildesheim and Ludwigsburg.

The debut album was released on Ton Zonen Records in late summer 2018 . It was actually recorded in one take and then only slightly overdubbed . Drummer Christian Linke was responsible for the recording and production.

At the end of 2018, the band announced the breakup on their Facebook page. The work on the second album had already been going on for six months, but the spatial distance between the actors was too great a challenge.

style

The band itself describes their style as "Sludgefunk / Doomdisco". As usual genre names, the sound was described in a review as "music reduced to the essentials, which is somewhere between Prog Rock , Doom , Stoner and Funk ". In practice this is a “basis of monster fuzzbass with alternating powerful riffs and rhythmic [sic!], Funky-dynamic passages with a dry and tricky reduced drumming” and a singing with “roots in the tragic-elegiac 90s alternative”. Elsewhere the label Desert Rock has simply been used.

reception

In the review of the debut album, musikreviews.de awarded 12 out of 15 possible points and the editor said in the meantime:

"Moto Toscana are not sexy, but instead put an interesting variation on the topic of" Noise Rock "up for debate - angular and elegant at the same time, improvisationally without reservations or an awareness of musical boundaries, but with a fine feeling for what is in front of a stage audience works and what doesn't. "

- Andreas Schiffmann : Musikreviews.de

In another review, the debut album was "especially recommended to fans of Beehoover who place a little more emphasis on prog instead of psychedelic".
