Band history
The duo met in the summer of 2004 through a mutual friend and have been making music together since 2005. The two had their first public appearances in October 2005 in a club in Omotesando ( Tokyo ). In 2006 moumoon were signed by the independent label GATE RECORDS and released their first single Flowers / pride in July of the same year . Finally, in September, their first mini album Flowers was released , which made the duo more famous.
The following year the band was accepted into the Japanese major label avex trax , under which the second mini album love me? appeared in August 2007. Since then, moumoon have regularly given concerts (including open-air concerts ) under the motto Fullmoon Live on every full moon day at various locations in Tokyo . In December, the first major single, Do you remember? published which made it into the top 100 of the Japanese Oricon charts.
In 2008 the band continued with the second single Tiny Star , which was released on June 4th and already reached 47th place on the Oricon charts. In summer, moumoon had the first opportunity to perform in front of a larger audience on the annual a-nation tour of their label Avex . In total, the duo gave three concerts in front of more than 20,000 spectators each. Moumoon's third single, more than love , was released on October 15 , followed by the band's first full studio album on November 12, entitled moumoon . The album was able to occupy 32nd place on the Oricon charts in the first week of sales.
In February 2009 the duo released their fourth single EVERGREEN . The song was used as the theme song for the film Kafu wo Machiwabite . The Tokyo concert was broadcast in full a few days later by the Japanese music broadcaster m-on TV . Later also the fifth single On the right and the sixth single Aoi Tsuki to Ambivalence na Ai , as well as the download single Destiny , which served as the theme song for the two-part television series Koishigure , were released.
In March 2010, the band released another mini album called Refrain . On May 12th, the seventh single Sunshine Girl followed , which was used for a large advertising campaign for the Japanese cosmetics manufacturer Shiseido . As a result, the song received a lot of attention and the single even made it into the top 10 of the Oricon charts in its second week of sales. The success of Sunshine Girl also helped the mini album SPARK , which was released the following July, to a great chart success. Since then, the band has released a number of other singles and studio albums.
