The Mount Baker National Recreation Area is a National Recreation Area in Whatcom County in the US state of Washington . It is located about 15 miles south of the border between the United States and Canada in the middle of the Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest . The closest city is Concrete .

The recreation area was established by a law of the US Congress in 1984 , primarily to enable the use of snowmobiles on the southern slopes of Mount Baker during the winter months. There are also many hiking trails in this area. The Mount Baker NRA is adjacent to the Mount Baker Wilderness , where the use of snowmobiles is not permitted.
