The Mount Dampier ( Rakiroa in Maori ) is New Zealand's third highest mountain, reaching a height of 3440 m . The mountain is located in the New Zealand Alps between Mount Hicks ( 3216 m ) and Aoraki / Mount Cook , the highest mountain in the country with 3724 m . The mountain is named after the British navigator William Dampier .
