At 950 meters, Mount Gimie is the highest mountain on the Caribbean island of St. Lucia . The mountain is of volcanic origin and is surrounded by lush tropical rainforest. The ascent is only permitted with a guide licensed by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Forestry Department (MAFFFD).
To the west of Mount Gimie are the Pitons , which have been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2004 .
