The Mount Lee ( 521 m ) is a mountain in the Santa Monica Mountains .
The well-known Hollywood sign is on its south side . The mountain peak behind the famous letters experienced changeful times. The cinematic all-rounder Mack Sennett , who had directed over 300 films, appeared as an actor and excelled as a singer and dancer, wanted to fulfill his dream of a huge villa here. The implementation of the plan ultimately failed due to financial problems. Sennett sold the mountain plateau to a man named Don Lee, who had made his money selling cars and ran a television station, the first American outside of New York. In his honor the area was renamed and is still called Mount Lee today. At the highest point there is still a fenced area with transmitter systems and a radio tower .
