Mount Macdonald is a 3,630 m high mountain in the Antarctic Ross Dependency . In the Commonwealth Range, it rises from a massive mountain range, which runs in a north-south orientation between the Ludeman glacier and the Pain firn field .
It was named after the New Zealand politician Thomas Macdonald (1898–1980) for his services to New Zealand's participation in Antarctic research in general and his commitment to the Commonwealth of Nations during a campaign carried out from 1961 to 1962 as part of the New Zealand Geological Survey Antarctic Expedition Antarctic Expedition (1955–1958) in particular.
