Mount Pye is a rugged mountain in the southeast of New Zealand's South Island . It is the highest point of the Catlins and reaches a height of 720 m. It is located in Catlins Forest Park , 40 km southeast of Gore and is part of the border between the Otago and Southland regions . The Maclennan River and the Waipati River have their source on its slopes . The lower Mount Alfred is about 7 km to the southwest.
The nearest town is Mokoreta , about 20 km to the west.
