Gore is a city in the Southland Region on the South Island of New Zealand . It is the seat of the Gore District Council and the administration of the district.
Origin of name
When the area was first settled, the place was first called Longford , but renamed in 1862 in honor of Thomas Gore Browne , an early governor of the country.

Sightseeing
East Gore is home to a Presbyterian house of worship, one of two surviving wooden churches designed by the well-known New Zealand architect Robert Lawson .
In addition, Gore calls itself the "world capital of trout fishing". To make this clear, there is a huge trout statue in the village.
