Mount Shirley is an ice-covered mountain near the Ruppert Coast in Marie-Byrd Land in western Antarctica . It rises up on the west side of the mouth of the Land Glacier . Its eastern flank is characterized by a distinctive mountain basin .
Participants in the United States Antarctic Service Expedition (1939–1941) discovered it and named it after Charles C. Shirley (1909–1989), chief photographer of the West Base on this expedition.
