Mount Victoria (Takarunga on te reo Maori) is the highest volcano in North Shore in New Zealand . It is the highest volcano in the area, but only 87 m high. The last eruption was 20,000 years ago. Its lava flows now mark a large part of the Devonport coastline . An important Pā of the Māori once lay on its slope, only a few remains of earth fortifications are preserved today.

The mountain is named after Queen Victoria . The hill offers a good view of Waitemata Harbor and the inner Hauraki Gulf .

Over the years a signal station, artillery positions and various concrete bunkers have stood on the summit and the upper part of the slope , some of which date back to the early 1870s. One of the bunkers is used by the Devonport Folk Club . The local tennis club's facilities are located on the slopes of the hill.

In the 1980s, students painted the ventilation shaft covers of the underground passages of the former artillery positions as a joke with a toadstool look. This was so popular with visitors to Mt. Victoria that the then North Shore City Council (now Auckland City Council) kept it and repainted the 'mushrooms' if necessary.
