Mount Whisler is a 2500 meter high mountain in the Canadian territory of Nunavut . It is the second highest mountain on Ellesmere Island , the British Empire Range and the Arctic Cordillera . Mount Whisler is located around twelve kilometers northeast of Barbeau Peak , the highest mountain in the Cordillera.
The mountain is completely enclosed by the Henrietta Nesmith Glacier and is located in the Quttinirpaaq National Park . It was first mapped in 1882 by an expedition of the United States Army Signal Corps led by Adolphus Greely , which was an American contribution to the First International Polar Year . It is named after the expedition member William Whisler († 1884).
