The Mowag Wotan (MR8-01) was a wheeled armored vehicle developed by the Swiss company Mowag .
History and Development
Equipped with two-axle steering, the vehicle is able to drive in a very small turning circle. The arrangement of the engine installed on the right in the rear area is also very special and allows the crew to leave the vehicle to the side and rear.
As a protected special wagon (SW1 and SW2), the WOTAN was introduced in the Federal Republic of Germany from 1963 to the Federal Border Guard and the riot police of the German states. The special car 1 did not have its own armament, the special car 2, however, had a rotating turret with a 20 mm automatic cannon (SW 2a) or MG 1/2 machine gun (SW 2b) as well as a smoke launch system with six throwing cups. At the Federal Border Police, SW 1 and 2 were also referred to as Kfz 91 and 92, respectively. There were of Bussing and Henschel built in Germany in license 700 special cars.
There were other variants such. B. built a mortar vehicle, but it found no buyers. A Wotan built as a prototype, which was tested by the Federal Border Guard, is now in the Swiss Military Museum Full . An amphibious version was marketed as the Mowag Grenadier.
