Muanda is a city with around 50,000 inhabitants on the Atlantic coast in the far west of the Democratic Republic of the Congo .

Muanda is located northwest of the mouth of the Congo in the province of Congo Central about 10 km from the small port town of Banana . The airport has the IATA airport code FZAG. The geographic location of Muanda is 5 ° 55 ′ 51 S and 12 ° 21 ′ 6 E.
history
The urban area of Muanda also includes the Kitona airport , which was expanded by the Belgian armed forces as a military base after the Second World War . The base was of great importance during the Congo crisis from 1960 to 1965. Muanda was conquered by Angolan troops during the Second Congo War and thus secured for the territory of the Congolese President Laurent-Désiré Kabila .

The beaches of Muanda today offer little tourist opportunities. The only hotel in 2012 was over 50 years old and run down.
