Muazzez Ersoy
Muazzez Ersoy (actually Hatice Yıldız Levent ; born July 9, 1954 in Kasımpaşa , Istanbul ) is a Turkish singer .
biography
Her father Yaşar Levent came from the city of Edirne and was a taxi driver in Istanbul . Her mother Fatma Levent worked in a cardboard factory.
Muazzez Ersoy married in 1975 and gave birth to their first son Ender . However, the marriage soon ended in divorce. After the divorce, she made her living as a worker in a cosmetics company. On the side she started taking music lessons.
Career
In 1983 she began performing professionally as a singer - initially under the name Hatice Yıldız, later as Muazzez Ersoy. In 1990, she sent a demo recording to the transmitter TRT and was then by Elenor Plak under contract taken.
With her first album "Seven Olmaz Ki", which was released in 1991 and sold over 400,000 copies, she made a successful debut .
In 1994 Ersoy founded her own record label under her real name "Levent Müzik Yapım". The following "nostalgia albums" were very successful. Particularly noteworthy is the "Nostalji 4-5-6" released in 1998, which is one of the most successful albums in Turkish music history with 3,500,000 units sold.
In total, Muazzez Ersoy sold over 11,500,000 albums between 1991 and 1999, making her the most successful artist in Turkey in the 1990s. In 1998 the Turkish Ministry of Culture awarded her the title of Devlet Sanatçısı (State Artist). In 2006 she became the UNHCR's Goodwill Ambassador .
