Muchse

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A Muchse is a male domestic cattle in which an artificial cryptorchidism has been caused by the displacement of the testicles to the abdominal wall . The treatment carried out for this is known as Muchsen . The name is a contraction of mu ni (bull, bull) and ox .

treatment

In contrast to the ox , the inability to conceive in the Muchsen is not achieved by castration with the surgical removal of the testicles or with the help of Burdizzo forceps . Instead, the testicles are pressed against the abdominal wall or moved into the abdominal cavity and fixed in this position with a rubber ring drawn around the empty scrotum . The scrotum necroses after a few weeks and falls off or is cut off. The testicles remain under the skin and slowly atrophy . The higher ambient temperature leads to the cessation of spermatogenesis and thus the inability to conceive , while the formation of testosterone is not impaired.

According to a comparative study, Muchsen is less stressful for the animal than orchiectomy and the use of Burdizzo forceps when it is performed under sedation with xylazine and local anesthesia . The procedure does not lead to fertility problems, individual animals can continue to produce sperm.

Animal welfare

Animal rights activists have criticized the fact that the process is very likely to be painful and cause irreversible damage to the individual calf. The treatment requires an anesthetic to be carried out by the veterinarian regardless of the age of the animal. As the destruction of body tissue of a vertebrate animal, the treatment is fundamentally prohibited, and the amputation of body parts with the help of elastic rings is not permitted. Muchsen is prohibited in Switzerland.
