Mudashiru Babatunde Lawal (* 8. June 1954 in Abeokuta , † 6. July 1991 in Ibadan ) was a Nigerian football - midfielder . He has been called up to the national team 86 times and scored 12 goals, making him still the most professional Nigerian soccer player. Lawal led Nigeria to its first Africa Cup of Nations win at the 1980 African Cup of Nations . In the same year he took part with the Nigerian selection in the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow ; the team was eliminated without a win after the preliminary round.

He was working as a mechanic when his football talent was discovered before making his national team jersey debut in 1975. In the same year he came to Shooting Stars FC in Ibadan , where he was to play for many years and he was the first Nigerian team to win the African Cup winners' competition. In 1985 the team was forced to disband by a military governor, but after four seasons he came back to the Shooting Stars as a playing assistant coach.

Lawal died in his home on July 6, 1991. Ashero Stadium in his hometown Abeokuta was named after him after his death.
