Muggenthal (noble family)
The von Muggenthal family (in the 17th century also: Muckhendall) was a Bavarian aristocratic family in the 15th to 18th centuries, which was mainly located in the Schambach Valley .

The Muggenthalers were temporarily masters of the Hofmark Sandersdorf (1425–1646), which also included Mendorf, which the Muggenthalers had acquired in 1520, of Eggersberg Castle (1435–1480), Hexenagger Castle (1528–1724) and Neuenhinzenhausen Castle (1557-1780). From 1471 the Schamhaupten monastery served the Muggenthal people as a family burial place.
From 1564 to 1652 they were also the owners of the Hofmark Unterbaar .
Through property in the knightly canton of Odenwald , they also belonged to the imperial-free Franconian knighthood (see also Fränkischer Ritterkreis , list of Franconian knight families ).
The Muggenthalers were raised to the status of imperial barons.
