The Multimedia Center Rotherbaum is an office complex in Hamburg-Rotherbaum on Rothenbaumchaussee , designed by British architect Sir Norman Foster and opened in 1998. It is located south of Hallerstrasse , across from the Rothenbaum tennis stadium .

history

The building was erected on part of the former sports field on Rothenbaum , which Hamburger SV used for many years. After this was given up on the part of the association despite efforts to preserve it, the site was rebuilt after several years of discussion and planning, along with other residential and commercial buildings with the multimedia center. The design of the building is considered "an important point in Foster's career". The building houses media and multimedia companies.

The Hallerstraße underground station , where the building is located and whose exits were redesigned during the construction phase, also bears the name “Multimedia Center Rotherbaum”.

Design and construction

The building is characterized by its high glass facades and glass canopies. During the planning, the height of the upper floor was doubled to enable residential apartments in the building. It stands next to another that contains television studios and offices. It is connected to the Multimedia Center with a passage on the fourth floor.
