geography

Mumong is located in the eastern part of Kuala Belait and borders in the north and northwest on the settlements of Pandan , Panaga in the east, also suburbs, and on the Belait in the south. In addition to the original village, the settlement consists of the Mumong Landless Indigenous Citizens' Housing Scheme to the east and west of the old town. The housing program affects the landless locals of Brunei, the so-called Malay rakyat jati .

traffic

Most of the roads in Kampung are paved. The main street through the old village is Jalan Mumong . however, the Seria Bypass divided the road into two sections. The Jalan Mumong – Kuala Balai is the only road that connects Kuala Balai with the rest of the country.

history

Mumong was a small Malaysian village on the banks of the Sungai Belait upstream from Kuala Belait on the way to Kuala Balai . Only since the development of Kuala Belait as the district capital at the turn of the 20th century and the construction of the streets Jalan Singa Menteri and Jalan Tengah did the place develop and especially south of Jalan Singa Menteri a commuter settlement for workers from Kuala Belait and Seria emerged . The construction of the Seria Bypass in the 1980s reinforced the settlement again.

With the construction of the Mumong Resettlement Area in the west of the Kampong, the government of Brunei has again made the area a focus of settlement. In addition, the Mumong Youth Center and Sports Complex was built in the 1990s, which is also used by residents from the surrounding Kampung Kuala Belait and Panaga. To keep up with the growing population, the Kuala Belait Sewerage Treatment Plant was created . The Mumong Telephone Exchange Area, on the other hand, is located in neighboring Kampong Pandan.

administration

The Mumong area is officially run as two administrative units: Mumong 'A' and Mumong 'B' (formerly: Mumong Utara and Mumong Selatan). Mumong 'A' includes the Mumong Public Housing Estate and the nearby Government Residential Area ; Mumong 'B' comprises the actual village. Both areas have their own postcodes: KA1531 and KA1731.

Each of these kampung is headed by a mayor ( Malay ketua kampung ).

At the same time, Mumong was incorporated into the city of Kuala Belait.
