The Muni-Pomadze-Lagune ( also: Muni-Lagune ) is an approximately 90 square kilometer lagoon in the Central Region in the West African state of Ghana .

location

The lagoon is located about 55 kilometers (as the crow flies) west-southwest of the capital Accra and borders the coastal city of Winneba . The districts of Awutu-Effutu-Senya and Gomoa are administratively responsible for the lagoon .

Common godwit ( Limosa lapponica )

The Muni-Pomadze-Lagoon is of great importance as winter quarters for a large number of bird species. An estimated 23,000 water birds are believed to live in the entire lagoon. The eastern part of the lagoon is overgrown with mangroves. Some measures are being taken to further develop this area for ecotourism.

Among other things, live bar-tailed godwit ( Limosa lapponica ), Spotted Redshank ( Tringa erythropus ), redshank ( Tringa totanus ), Sanderling ( Calidris alba ), Collared Pratincole ( Glareola pratincola ), little tern ( Sterna albifrons ), Royal Tern ( Sterna maxima ) and Western Reef Heron ( Egretta gularis ) in this lagoon.

Near the lagoon is a grassland the Winneba plains ( dt. Graslandschaft of Winneba ). Here live many rare butterflies and insects, and other birds - such as black-bellied bustard ( Lissotis melanogaster ), Tree Klapper Lark ( Mirafra rufocinnamomea ) Bluestem singer ( Melocichla mental ), Northern Red Bishop ( Euplectes franciscanus ) from the kind of fire Weber , flames Weber ( Euplectes hordeaceus ) and Sonnenprinie ( Euplectes hordeaceus ). A subspecies from the species of the Bültenpinkpink ( Cisticola eximius ) lives in this area, which is named after the Winneba plains.
