The fire weavers or widas ( Euplectes ) are a genus of birds in the family of weaver birds (Ploceidae). It includes 17 species . The name "Wida" is mainly related to species of the genus Euplectes . The males are often very conspicuously colored like the black and red colored fire wida ( Euplectes franciscanus ) or have long, train-like tail feathers like the cock's tail wida ( Euplectes progne ). The fire weavers prefer open landscapes as living space.
