The diadem-Wida or diadem Weber ( Euplectes diadematus ) is one within the family of weaver birds (Ploceidae) to the genus of fire Weber ( Euplectes ).

features

The diadem wida is 10 cm tall and about 14 g in weight. The male has a small, bright red spot on the forehead and top of the head in its splendid dress , otherwise the head is black. The back and rump are yellow, the coat is striped yellow and black, the wings are rimmed yellow. In the plain dress , like females and young animals, it has an ocher-brown color, dark stripes on the back, light gray belly and light yellow-brown stripes above the eyes.

distribution and habitat

Diadem widas usually appear in large numbers after rainfall in Kenya , as well as in the north of Tanzania and in Somalia in open semi-arid grassland and arable land up to 1000 m altitude.

nutrition

Diadem widas feed mainly on grass seeds, especially barn millet (Echinochloa) and Sporobolus - sweet grasses .

The Diadem-Wida is not considered endangered ( Least Concern ).
