The mirror Weber or Spiegelwida ( Euplectes albonotatus ) counts within the family of weaver birds (Ploceidae) to the genus of fire Weber ( Euplectes ).
features
The mirror weaver is 14 cm tall and weighs 20–27 g, the female is slightly smaller and lighter. The bird has a strong, conical, light-colored bill, black eyes and dark legs. The male is in breeding plumage black to yellow on the shoulder and white to the hand and arm swing. In a simple dress , like the female, he is lightly striped ocher with chestnut brown shoulders and white on the hand and arm wings.
distribution and habitat
The habitat includes bush-covered grassland, rather dry below 2000 m.
The following subspecies can be distinguished:
- E. a. eques ( Hartlaub , 1863) - in the Central African Republic to the west and south of the Sudan , the south and east of Ethiopia , in the west of Rwanda and Burundi in the south of Uganda , Kenya and Tanzania striped with maroon shoulder and more white on the arm swing
- E. a. asymmetrurus ( Reichenow , 1892) - in São Tomé , Gabon , the Republic of the Congo , the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and in Angola
- E. a. albonotatus ( Cassin , 1848) - in Tanzania, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Zambia , Malawi , the Zambezi Region in Namibia , Botswana , Zimbabwe , Mozambique , Swaziland, and South Africa
nutrition
Spiegelwida feed on various grass seeds such as hyparrhenia and lamp cleaner grasses .
Reproduction
The breeding season in Sudan is between September and October, in Ethiopia in June, in Rwanda between February and April.
Hazardous situation
The Spiegelwida is considered not to be endangered ( least concern ).
