The Munich Center for Advanced Photonics (MAP) is an interdisciplinary research association ( cluster of excellence ) of the LMU Munich .
Goal and concept
At the Munich Center for Advanced Photonics (MAP), researchers in the field of photonics are developing coherent light sources and light-powered particle sources. The goals of MAP are higher intensities, complete control of light pulses, better frequency accuracy and higher photon energies. The new particle sources are used, for example, by biologists and medical professionals to observe and clarify the structure of biomolecules, but also changes in tissue, and to use them for diagnosis and therapy, for example of tumors. The interdisciplinary network of MAP creates a research infrastructure for this.
